24k gold means that is is pure 100% gold with no other metals "alloyed" along with it. Gold is always measured in karat terms. For example 24k means 24/24ths gold or 100% pure gold.

14k is 14/24ths gold or 58.3% gold with the remaining balance of copper, nickel, silver, zinc, etc. Different alloys determine the color of the karat gold. Of these metals, the best finish obtainable is pure 24k gold.
